Countries

From this page, you can download country and regional reports produced by AICD.

Most AICD products provide an Africa-wide perspective. However, national policy makers may well need to see results for their country. AICD’s country reports cater to that need by extracting and repackaging AICD results relevant to each country in a succinct, easy-to-use document. The Country Reports benchmark each country’s performance on different aspects of infrastructure against the relevant African peer group.

AICD’s regional economic community reports (REC reports; see below for country composition) show how countries can benefit by addressing infrastructure at the regional level. AICD has found that regional integration lowers the costs of infrastructure services. Many African countries are too small (in geographic size, population, or GDP) to develop their own infrastructure cost-effectively. Regional solutions exploit economies of scale.

Methodology

AICD covers the years 2001–06. Most of the technical data presented are for 2006 (or the most recent year available), while financial data are typically averaged over the available period to smooth out the effect of short-term fluctuations. AICD reports do not present up-to-the-minute data for the countries concerned, but rather an indication of that country’s relative position based on the most recent cross-country data available.

To draw comparisons across countries, it was necessary to standardize the indicators and the analysis to ensure consistency across countries. Some of the indicators may be presented in a slightly different form from that routinely reported and discussed at the country level.
